HIGH HAT CAFÉ

During a recent trip to New Orleans, I went to an old favorite spot of mine, High Hat Café. Right on the corner of Freret and Jena streets, it’s located in an up-and-coming section of the Freret section of the city.

ATMOSPHERE

High Hat Café has an ambiance indicative of the city — jovial, folksy, and relaxed. The waitresses were very friendly, even when I was being a bother about switching my Pino Gris (I didn’t like it) to Pino Grigio. They had a well stocked bar, but I kept to wine for dinner. Even though there was no al fresco dining, the building has large windows, great for people watching.

FOOD

I was with family at this restaurant and we enjoyed the Pimento Cheese, Deviled Ham, Deviled Eggs, and Mixed Pickle platter as an appetizer, I highly recommend it. For my main course, I had a Grilled Shrimp Po’Boy with Pimento Mac and Cheese (you see a theme here, right?). All were delicious and the pimento angle is very unique.
