Breaking the silence of the early morning light, the first of five daily adzan is heard; not sleep disturbing, but accessorizing the urban beat of a waking city. This was my introduction to Kuala Lumpur. Not often am I surprised about the places I visit, but the former tin colony was a delightful shock to the system.

 I had a great time last night at #MoMA for its Opening Night Party festivities. The museum officially re-opens on Monday, October 21st 2019 after being closed since mid June to finish construction on the new addition.  A block away from our hotel, the #royalsonestaneworleans , and the madness that is Bourbon St. exists the comparatively sleepy Royal St. where we discovered #brennansnola and a delicious (and well-plated) brunch. The well-lit dining room of the restaurant lied parallel to a beautiful courtyard with a water feature that surprisingly had live turtles on the premises. I absolutely recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for an upscale take on traditional cajun food, or need a bit of an oasis from the hustle of Bourbon St. My meal included: Caribbean Milk Punch - #buffalotracebourbon , #bacardi 8 Year Rum, Cream, Vanilla Bean Seafood Filé Gumbo - Shrimp, Andouille, Oysters, Basmati Rice Eggs Cardinal - Crispy Shrimp Boudin, Spinach, Lobster Cardinal, Black Truffle Hollandaise Housemade Pork Sausage Patty Bananas Foster - Bananas, Butter, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, Rum, New Orleans Ice Cream Co. Vanilla Bean Ice Cream  Friday night — it’s the end of the week and chilly outside. These days, wine and the couch are a panacea for a mad world. Sommolier’s Box selection from @thewinerynyc.  Let’s be real, Beignets are a gift from the divine. They also happen to be the one and only food item Café du Monde serves (beyond coffee and other beverages 🧐). The historic French Quarter staple has had plenty of time to perfect the formula for almost 160 years since its founding in 1862. As you can imagine, These didn’t last 10 minutes.  A tiny glimpse of the @beardfoundation media awards after party hosted by chef JJ Johnson (JBF 2019 book award winner) at the #henryatlifehotelnyc. The pizza and Salmon Bowl (China Black Rice, Pineapple, Edamame, Piri Piri Sauce) were delicious...and, of course, the @veuveclicquot flowed freely 🥂. • • • • • #justincurated #foodporn #food #instafood #foodphotography #foodandwine #taste #flavor #foodie #dining #finedining #nom #veuveclicquot #jamesbeardawards #jamesbeardawards2019  Kuala Lumpur was a mystery that I originally wrote off as a pit stop on the way to a more “interesting” place in the region. The duck breast pastrami and lobster poached in vanilla butter were standouts for me.
